WHAT HAD MY HEAD TURNING LAST WEEKEND IN THE WEST VILLAGE AND ON THE UPPER EAST SIDE
1. Black Overalls
My friend Alanna was wearing black overalls just like this when we met her for dinner in the West Village. She styled them with a simple, white short sleeve t-shirt…she looked effortlessly cool (because she is). I want a pair yesterday. These might be a little warm for the summer Texas heat, but they are great for fall here. If you don’t want to wear full-length overalls, go with the jorts (jean shorts) version.
2. Criss Cross Slides
I saw these slides everywhere. They go with almost everything, and I observed that they were used to either dress looks up or down. They must be comfortable to walk in too, if women were wearing them on the streets.
3. Thick-Soled Sneakers
I first noticed the Korean women at our Fashion Group International conference wearing these. They had the coolest style. Then I started noticing them more as I walked the streets. I think they are funky, fun and just quirky enough to make a cute statement.
4. Fancy Trunk Luggage
I saw a bell man loading a lady’s luggage into a cab on 5th avenue that looked just like this. She was fancy, the luggage was fancy, the building was fancy and the car was fancy. I wanted everything to do with her situation. Aside from that, beautiful trunk luggage has been appearing on the internet and Instagram lately (obviously all of the algorithms know what I want), and the thought of traveling with sturdy suitcases is highly appealing, because none of my luggage ever withstands baggage claim life for very long.
5. A PINK Suit!
This fabulousness frankly needs no explanation. I stepped out onto 5th avenue ready for day two of our conference having just decided that my pink pants and jacket I had planned to wear Friday were too bright for the weather. I changed my outfit to a more muted ensemble. Then this totally cool chick walked past me with purpose, wearing a pink suit with her headphones in. She was carrying a backpack and wearing sneakers. Clearly she was on her way to the office to make life happen, but I wanted to follow her around all day and be her new best Texan friend.
I had the most incredible trip to NY last weekend, and there is more content coming about what I learned, observed, and lived while there. I hope it isn’t too long before I make it back. In the meantime, I’ll be dreaming in a New York state of mind under the big Texas sky…
