What I wore for a casual afternoon visit on the Connecticut Coast with my mom and her college roommate.
Location: Rowayton, Connecticut.
This past week has been a very special one. I traveled with my parents to Connecticut to celebrate my grandmother’s 90th birthday with our extended family and close friends. Mom and her sisters pulled off the big affair without a hitch (as they always do), and Mimi is still on cloud nine from all of her surprises, love and attention all week. I am so grateful that I was able to be here to experience this big milestone in my sweet grandmother’s life, and to watch her dance and laugh and eat and enjoy “one of the best nights of her life.”
After the family festivities wound down and my aunts, uncles and cousins all made it back to their respective homes throughout New England, my parents and I decided to plan a day trip to visit my Mom’s best friend and college roommate in her new coastal abode in Rowayton, CT. Sara, or “Beautiful Aunt Sara” as she has always demanded we call her, hosted us for lunch, a walk on the beach and a barrel of laughs about she and my mother’s adventures in college.
The weather warmed up to 50 degrees, so I decided to wear my blue Gap shirtdress with my lightweight Diega olive coat (old, similar here) for some color contrast. Mimi’s shoe collection is extensive, and she doesn’t wear many of her beautiful pairs of shoes anymore, so I like to wear them while I’m up here. I grabbed a pair of her blue needlepoint Zalo flats (similar here), put them with my camel mini tote from Banana Republic (similar here), my brown Versace sunnies (mine are old, similar pair here) and we were on our way. The scarf I’m wearing on Beautiful Aunt Sara‘s Vespa is hers that she bought in Italy. We were laughing away taking pictures with her “new toy” and she tied her scarf around my neck because, “that’s what Italians wear on their Vespas.” The shore was serene, the town was quaint and cozy, and I didn’t want to leave.
