In Collaboration With Neiman Marcus
When it comes to the classics, you don’t get much more iconic than black and white with a pop of red. This week I collaborated with Neiman Marcus San Antonio to style a feminine gingham getup around this preciously perfect Lela Rose Dress. I saw it on a model in a recent style show that Neiman’s presented and was enamored by both its conservative cuts and its flirty flounces. The ruched fabric gives the dress movement and personality, and the silhouette of the bodice is fabulously flattering. All it made me want to do was twirl around in the nearest gazebo and sing “I am sixteen going on seventeen,” because SOM is always inspo for life’s little moments that make you go, Wheeeeeeeee! Luckily for me there was a gazebo around when I shot these photos (see hat-on-railing photo above). Sadly, the pictures of me dancing didn’t quite make the cut (too much twirl).
I accessorized the dress with a Gucci bag and a pair of Oscar de la Renta crystal tassel earrings (pictured are the solid red). The pieces were just the right shade for each other and were also the perfect match to my Rouge Dior lipstick. I couldn’t resist pairing these Gucci cat-eye sunnies with the gingham because their shape is timeless: conservative but with lots of personality, just like the dress. I’m all about bringing a little bit of *good* drama to an occasion, which is a statement that shouldn’t surprise anyone 😉 San Antonio is mostly always sunny, so a hat is a rather practical wardrobe accent here. Eric Javits’s lady-like lids are beautifully made and fit like a glove; I’m pictured wearing the Phoenix Boater.
For those of you plotting your Derby Day ensembles, this is certainly a look that might help with your “Pinspiration.” (I’ve even made it easy for you to add my looks to your Pinterest boards with a new Pin-It button feature that hovers over every photo!) If Derby Day isn’t your thing, this is just an all-around classic Spring / Summer look and, in my opinion, one that’s a worthwhile investment because it won’t ever go out of style.
Never stop twirling, my friends!
