What’s Not To Miss In Our NOV-DEC Issue of The Society Diaries
As a contributor to The Society Diaries in years past, I used to think I understood what went into the production of printing a magazine every two months. But I’m re-learning in this new role that there is so. much. that goes into birthing a publication every other month. In many ways, it’s just like putting on a new show six times a year. Which: A.) I miss being in shows. And B.) A 2-month rehearsal schedule is similar to the length of time you get for a staged production, so I’m into it. I even get nerves and feels when our new issues drop. A sign that I’m finally doing something that makes me tick.
For our annual Holiday issue, there is usually a more worldly focus with our features. Fashion takes the back seat as we highlight the big, bold and generous entertaining that Texans are coordinating for causes both in state and around the world. Our first feature “Becca’s Mecca” highlights Houston philanthropist Becca Cason Thrash and her two major fundraising events she planned and hosted in Venice and Paris this summer. Her efforts managed to raise almost $4 million in one week. Regardless of your opinion on content that skews more towards fantastical rather than down to Earth – that’s extremely impressive, and a feat that can be executed only by the strongest of women. Here’s Becca pictured with Christian Louboutin at her Paris party. NBD.
The next feature is our popular annual Holiday luxury gift guide. On a personal note, I’m really excited about this guide. We were able to highlight the work of some amazing Texas women who also happen to be personal friends. Don’t miss “The Riches of the Season” for some fabulous fashionable inspiration, some techie gizmos and gadgets, and keep Annlyn of Haute Horns, Nikki of Nicole Mera and Chloe of Eight Moons Jewelry on your radar for special custom work that sparkles.
The final feature of the season walks us through a week-long getaway at a dreamy “Holistic Haven” in Thailand: the five-star resort Chiva-Som, near the royal city Hua Hin, just a few hours outside of Bangkok. Add it to my list of wellness retreat spot #goals. Let’s be honest, they had me at “cell vitality retreat” and “tension release.” At some point in my life I hope to make it to Thailand. File it away in daydreams for now.
Last but not least: not a feature, but a fun piece I contributed to. Check out our list of “Statewide Savvy” : hotspots in San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Houston to add to your weekend getaway “must do” lists. If you can think of some good hot spots in San Antonio that I can contribute to future issues, let me know in the comments below!
