Jumpsuits can be one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe. I have invested in five of them throughout the beginning of my career. Every single time I wear this jumpsuit by modernist designer Mila Hermanovski (you might know her from Project Runway), people stop me and ask where it’s from. This piece was one of the more daring purchases I’ve made, and I found it at The Garden Room boutique in Austin, TX. Mila doesn’t have the jumpsuit on her website currently, but here is one I found with similar lines and shoulder ties- it’s See by Chloé. To me, what makes this Mila jumpsuit so unique is its daring personality evoked by its long lines and flowy fabric. It is loosely structured and wide-legged, and it just sort of effortlessly drapes off of you because the fabric is heavy.
A basic piece (such as a jumpsuit) is a blank canvas. You can work with a jumpsuit and style it so many different ways if you are creative. I used to wear this piece just on its own for years, and then I started to take some risks with it. Lately I have been really into styling my jumpsuits with a simple white undershirt (mine is from Gap, but here is one similar) and a silk neck scarf (mine is a vintage hand-me-down from my grandmother, but here is one similar). When you put jumpsuits together that way, they all of a sudden become a polished power suit- but with a worldly flair. You can throw on a cropped blazer over it to finish the look, like this vintage Chanel Cropped Notch-Lapel Blazer (mine is vintage Chanel, but a hand-me-down from a family friend). You could even throw on a gondola hat and big sunnies for your commute to the office. And of course, don’t forget a classic statement bag like this Gucci tote to throw your laptop and belongings into.
Whether you’re working toward a C-suite position, you have a big day in court, you’re closing on the signing of a big client, you’re meeting with the dream agent that you’re trying to land, you’re selling your book to a publisher, you have your first big job interview, or anything and everything in between…the way you dress yourself is going to inform you from the outside in. You can do it, fellow #bossbabe- follow your inner light and chase after your dreams.
