Why I’m Back to the Bow with AC Power Yoga and Bellying Up to the (Smart) Barre.
I am back at the Bowspring, but this time changing up my routine to be going to class more days per week than I did in January. The goal is to do 4-5 days per week of Bowspring and 2-3 days per week of Barre. I am not a frequent Barre class girl, so I am really looking forward to joining the Smart Barre community and introducing new movement to my body.
Making it to 7 workouts in a week isn’t easy. I have always been prone to discipline slip-ups, so one of my life hacks I’ve developed is pushing myself into shorter, digestible spurts that keep me well-oiled, in a groove, and not overwhelmed about the greater idea of having to work out 5-7 days a week for the rest of my life in order to maintain my physical health.
After mentioning that my arms lost some tone in my prior fitness challenge, due to the fact that I wasn’t going to Power Yoga class anymore, my friends at AC Power Yoga worked with me to adjust this month’s plan to achieve my goals and increase tone in my arms and continue to heal my shoulder injury. Movement as medicine is the goal here, and I file Bowspring class in my brain as “take your medicine” for that reason. Thinking about it as physical therapy rather than a workout motivates me to get there, because my right shoulder and neck are in discomfort and I want to get rid of the hurt.
I haven’t been to a Barre class yet; I’ll be starting that part of the journey tomorrow. I love their female-centered focus on intelligent exercise for women. Their method combines strength training and stretching as a sustainable form of exercise for women of all ages and fitness levels.
What Bowspring introduced me to was the idea that I can be strong, have great muscle tone, but still have a feminine looking body. I think Smart Barre will fit right in with those fitness goals and compliment my Bowspring practice perfectly. I’ll be reporting back throughout the month with progress from both studios.
Cheers to the weekend!
